All Felony Charges Dismissed for School District Employee
Attorney Warren M. Ellis successfully defended a Baldwin Park Unified School District employee who faced multiple felony charges stemming from allegations that she misrepresented COVID-19 symptoms while receiving workers’ compensation benefits.
The client was charged with two felony counts of insurance fraud and one felony count of grand theft, placing her career, reputation, and future at risk. The case also took a significant personal and emotional toll on the client and her family during an already difficult period involving COVID-19 illness.
Following a preliminary hearing, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge dismissed all felony charges, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to move the case forward. Warren Ellis challenged the allegations against his client and argued that the case should never have been brought against her.
The dismissal allowed the client to move forward without the felony prosecution that had weighed on her for approximately 10 months.
The case and Warren Ellis’ defense were featured in the San Bernardino Sun in October 2021.
